My STORY
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to travel to many places by plane, on a cruise ship, and on a lot of road trips! I grew up a military brat, having bounced around the US and a few years in Taiwan. Back in those days, safety was not necessarily as much of a concern as it is nowadays. Luggage was not very secure, carrying a lot of items on board did not create much worry, and the internet was not yet a thing.
As I got older, I was able to travel a fair amount alone, with family, and just with friends. As I adventured out on the open roads crisscrossing the country from coast to coast multiple times, I was fortunate not to have run into many problems along the way. The same with flying to various destinations, mostly domestic, not too many issues to report. But I was younger and more aware of my surroundings in those days, so I was not as concerned about security, certainly not as much as I probably should have been.
In more recent years of traveling, I have quite a different take on things. While on a domestic flight, unfortunately, I was the victim of a tablet theft while I was waiting for my flight. Seated and waiting, I had my bag slightly under my seat while I was on my laptop. At some point, someone in the seat behind me must have lifted the tablet, not sure of any other time it could have happened. That goes to show how quickly and easily things can happen.
My mission is to look out for my fellow travelers’ safety
After a couple of years of forced isolation due to the pandemic, travelers, like myself, have been eager to plan their next adventure. Maybe it’s those “getaways” that got put on hold or shelved for another time that now have those adventure juices flowing. With that in mind, it is important to realize that the threat of something unwanted happening while out on the road is a very real possibility, if it has not happened already!
There are so many stories about solo travelers or families on vacation having their time cut short due to unwanted events. I spend a bit more time now planning my trips concerning personal security. A travel safety kit is not something I gave much thought to in years past, but something I take very seriously now. Taking some proactive measures can help to avoid or at least limit vulnerability on the road.
Traveling is something I want to do more of in the coming years. Through my own experiences and those of others, product research and recommendations are an ongoing process and something I have a passion for.
